Marine marketplace

MarineWise

A boat marketplace with searchable model guides, specifications and tools for comparing boats.

Seller uploads are checked before anyone sees them, in a queue that does not hold up the listing.

My contribution

I worked inside the existing WordPress platform rather than replacing it, adding the marketplace features, the boat-research workflows and the queued media checks.

  • Boat-guide search and model research
  • Marketplace and comparison workflows
  • Private uploads and a staging image-moderation worker

The result

Custom marketplace and research tools, with staging checks for the media pipeline.

Marketplace software and infrastructure delivery

The problem

Marketplace uploads have to pass checks before anyone sees them, but image analysis is slow and a seller will not wait on a spinner. Do it inline and listings stall; skip it and unapproved media goes public. The platform was already WordPress, so the answer had to fit alongside it rather than replace it.

How it was approached

  1. Keep original uploads private until they have passed the moderation workflow.
  2. Move image analysis out of the user request and onto a queue.
  3. Define the integration contract with WordPress first, so neither side guesses at state.
  4. Prove the staging worker with canary uploads before switching the app over.

How far up the stack the work reached

The WordPress marketplace, its listings and its editorial catalogue already existed. The private upload boundary, the processing pipeline and the moderation path were added around them.

  1. Marketplace

The WordPress marketplace, its listings and editorial catalogue.

  2. Upload

Authenticated upload boundary writing to private object storage.

  3. Queue

Asynchronous jobs decoupling analysis from the listing request.

  4. Worker

Image-analysis worker deployed and exercised in staging.

  5. Moderation

Result contracts and moderation state carried back to the platform.

  6. Delivery

Approved media released to buyers; unapproved media never exposed.

Engineering load

What was built

Integration architecture

Define the seam between the marketplace and the processing workflow.

  • WordPress integration contracts
  • Authenticated upload boundary design
  • Moderation state and result contracts
  • Supabase-backed marketplace authentication

Media pipeline

Expensive work, moved off the critical path.

  • Private object storage for originals
  • Queued image-analysis jobs
  • Worker result handling and retry behaviour

Release preparation

Exercise the infrastructure before anything depends on it.

  • Staging worker deployment on AWS
  • Canary processing checks through the live path
  • Approved-media delivery design

What changed

Private by default

Nothing public before approval

Originals land in private storage and are released only once the moderation workflow has passed them.

Asynchronous

Listings never block on analysis

A queue and worker separate image analysis from the listing request, so the seller's upload completes immediately.

Canary-verified

Staging before activation

The deployed staging worker was exercised with canary processing runs before the application was pointed at it.
